Kevin Owens has spent just shy of two years as a babyface now, but it's time for WWE's Prizefighter to return to the dark side. The popular Canadian star has been feuding with The Bloodline lately, but he could turn his attention elsewhere soon.
Cody Rhodes successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash at the Castle: Scotland last Saturday (June 15). He beat AJ Styles in an I Quit Match but was confronted by Solo Sikoa post-match and attacked by The Bloodline afterward. Kevin and Randy Orton came to the champion's rescue, but the former may have ulterior motives.
Kevin Owens, 40, hasn't tasted singles gold since 2017, when he held the United States Championship. His last stint with a world title was earlier that year when he was Universal Champion. He could be longing for another singles title reign and prepared to even take out Cody Rhodes to get there.
Fans drowned out a popular wrestler with 'She's a racist' chants recently
The consensus following Clash at the Castle 2024 was that Solo Sikoa looks to be Cody Rhodes' next challenger. The American Nightmare could do with KO and Randy Orton's support, as a Bloodline feud looks to be back on his radar.
KO could blindside Rhodes by helping him overcome a rivalry with Sikoa before ensuring he's next in line for the Undisputed WWE Championship. A monster heel turn at SummerSlam this year, where he takes out both the champion and his partner Randy, would stun fans into complete silence.
"I really don’t take anything for granted" - Kevin Owens' WWE future is somewhat uncertain
Kevin Owens hinted that his long-term future isn't set in stone amid his contract expiring in early 2025. He said he doesn't take anything for granted but he couldn't imagine being away from the company he's called home for 10 years.
The former ROH star joined the Stamford-based company in 2014 and started off at NXT, where he became NXT Champion. He didn't take too long to make the main roster jump and has since held the United States Championship (x3), the Intercontinental Championship (x2), and the tag team championships with Sami Zayn.
A Kevin Owens-less WWE doesn't seem imaginable, given his longevity in the promotion. He surely deserves another main event run with a world title under Triple H's regime, and a fresh heel turn could get him there.
Many will expect Randy Orton to be Cody Rhodes' big-name challenger, with SummerSlam as a likely destination. The Viper eyed the title after helping his former Legacy partner post-match at Clash at the Castle: Scotland. A heel Owens could stun his way into the title picture and steal the spotlight.
