The fans that rooted for some clobbering time in Chicago went home disappointed as CM Punk failed to make a much anticipated return to the squared circle. But keeping that apart, there were a lot for the talking points from this week’s show, which was well above an average outing.
Tag titles saw a surprising change of hands as the Usos finally got their hands on the gold while Shield took a more interesting turn when Seth Rollins walked out on his teammates. An unexpected main event between Daniel Bryan and Batista made the night for others.
And all seem to be well placed for WrestleMania now expect the Daniel Bryan situation which could be solved in the coming weeks. Well let’s not be concerned about the future now and take a look back at how this week’s Raw was for the wrestlers with the superstar ratings.
Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE
The New Age Outlaws – 5/10
Degenerates from the attitude Era will be heading home happy despite losing the titles this week as it has freed them of the misery of losing their legacy slowly.
The age factor was clearly catching on to the Outlaws in the reign and it proved to be the right time to take the titles away and give them something a bit less demanding to do in the meanwhile.
Big E – 5/10
After having a lot of momentum and a great push for the later part of 2013, Big E has been put into a shameful situation of being a weak link to expose the Real Americans storyline.
Being forced to wrestle twice in the same night, he showed no signs of his old sense whatsoever as his match against Cesaro never worked for him and the one against Swagger didn’t even start to be precise.
A credible feud before WrestleMania might be the only thing he wants now, as this is clearly not the direction he wants to go at the moment.
Brock Lesnar – 5/10
There weren’t much heat on Lesnar without the presence of Undertaker, but Paul Heyman deserves credit for holding things together.
Coming out for an opening segment in front of a hostile crowd is never an easy thing to do and Lesnar seemed to be the scape goat of that when he got no benefit whatsoever in giving Mark Henry an F-5 through the announce table.
Alberto Del Rio - 5/10
If there is one wrestler who that the WWE fans should be feeling sorry about it has to be Alberto Del Rio, from being a world champion a few months back, Del Rio has been relegated to midcard with no storyline.
He took another fall this week, when Aaron Paul decided to distract the Mexican in-between his match against Ziggler. Something has to give sooner than later if Del Rio’s career is to be saved coz this is clearly not the path he wants to go in.
John Cena - 5/10
Surprisingly, Cena seemed well off his game this week thanks to the fans in Chicago and a certain Bray Wyatt. Cena giving emphasis on Chicago didn’t work well either since the WWE is an international show.
However, Bray simply stole the show from Cena once he appeared in the screen. He was looking like a more than worthy opponent for Cena who was lost in the squared circle once the lights went off.
The Real Americans – 6.5/10
Real Americans are the latest addition to the creative’s hobby of breaking up teams and it seems to be well on path for a WrestleMania showdown between the two. Zeb Colter proved to be an ideal manager this week by keeping him boys apart but it will not be the case as weeks go by.
With such friction between them, it would only be a matter of time before it happens and Cesaro deserves this rating for the performance he gave against Big E.
Christian – 6.5/10
Captain Charisma’s heel turn is working wonders for everyone around him but being put against Sheamus on a regular basis might affect the company’s future plans of giving the two a WrestleMania stage.
Christian is yet to get on over Sheamus and lending out the frustrations backstage gives more momentum for him which he could carry till the pay-per-view.
Batista – 7/10
Batista’s heel turn had a big boost with his match against Daniel Bryan in the main event. though he came out looking bad after the match, having a match against such a big fan favorite like Bryan was the clear indication that he is no longer a face.
The fact that Batista couldn’t match up to Bryan was the only flaw but once he gets used to the ring once again, he’s surely going to be the among the top heels in the company.
Dolph Ziggler - 7/10
Ziggler was lucky enough to have some limelight this week as he was accompanied by Aaron Paul. After his heroics on Twitter last week, Ziggler got himself a win as well at the expense of Alberto Del Rio.
The Ziggler- Miz tag team that is rumored to be in the backstage needs to come out soon since the tag team division and both these men desperately need a refreshment.
Sheamus – 7/10
As a follow-up to what went down last week on Raw and SmackDown, The Celtic warrior was given his chance for redemption this week. Though the match didn’t reach to the level of their last week’s match, Sheamus and Christian showed excellent chemistry as usual.
A good mid card WrestleMania match seems to be brewing in the background and it would be better for both superstars as they are going nowhere near the title scenario.
The Usos – 7.5/10
Though the much anticipated moment didn’t come on a bigger stage, a title win for Usos was a great way to complement the efforts they were putting in to hold the division together.
Rikishi will be so proud of his sons as the moment as they are sure to head into WrestleMania as the champions. With many tag teams crumbling around them so easily one thing that the company should keep in mind would be to give them some competition post WrestleMania.
Shield – 8/10
Another exciting week for the Shield as their break up angle was pushed a bit further thanks to Seth Rollins this time. He seemed to be coming out of the shadow of Reigns and Ambrose this week and seeing something like that from Rollins was clearly unexpected making this one a big deal.
What follows will be more interesting since the motives of Rollins are still a mystery. A great match with the Wyatt Family made it a great night for the hounds of justice as well.
Daniel Bryan – 8/10
Daniel Bryan and the fans have made it clear what they want for WrestleMania. but there were no certain direction given for the flying goat this week also as he seems to be stuck in a limbo between a semi-main event and a main event.
Getting it one inside the ring with Batista at the main event had a lot of potential but Bryan came out weak from the segment as he was taken out by the authority. It won’t be late before he seeks revenge for this one.
Wyatt Family – 8.5/10
Dispatching the shield and overpowering John Cena in a verbal confrontation made the night for the Wyatt Family as they clearly are the top performers for another week.
With another great night under their resume, the creepy guys seems well set for WrestleMania and Bray Wyatt in particular should be the happiest guy in the locker room as he is getting the push of his life. Some more friction against the Shield and taunt of Cena will surely take them to the top of the chain before WrestleMania so following the buzzards is worth the time.
