The custom of celebrities showing up at WrestleMania started at the first installment of ‘Mania itself and the man who started it was none other than boxing legend Mohammad Ali.
Ali would guest referee the main event of WrestleMania 1 which featured a tag team pitting Hulk Hogan and Mr.T against Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper. Ali would punch Piper in the face mid-way through the match in order to restore order.

Hogan would start his customary win at WrestleMania whereas Piper and Mr.T would battle in a boxing match at WrestleMania next year.
