WWE Money in the Bank 2019: 5 reasons why Seth Rollins retained the Universal Championship

Seth Rollins took on AJ Styles for the first time in 13 years and for the first time in a WWE ring at Money In The Bank and the match definitely didn't disappoint. The Universal Champion was able to retain his title despite being taken to the limit in the ring with The Phenomenal One in what was easily the match of the night.

Rollins won the title back at WrestleMania when he was able to overcome The Beast Brock Lesnar in the curtain opener at the biggest event of the year. This made it clear that Rollins wasn't going to have a short reign with the Championship since he was the man that overcame the man who ended The Streak.

Whilst Seth retaining his Championship wasn't a shock, there are a number of reasons why WWE needed to keep the title around his toned waist.

#5 AJ Styles and Seth Rollins needed to be on the same page

Seth Rollins and AJ Styles left it all in the ring at Money in the Bank
Seth Rollins and AJ Styles left it all in the ring at Money in the Bank

AJ Styles and Seth Rollins battled it out in a fantastic match at Money In The Bank but Seth Rollins was the one who came out on top. The match itself showed that both men were looking to prove that they were better than the other and interestingly afterward, AJ Styles bit the bullet and offered his hand to Seth Rollins.

This could mean some interesting things on Monday Night Raw in the future since Seth Rollins is still the Universal Champion. But if he and Styles have respect for one another then they could work together until Styles is handed another shot at the Championship.

Ahead of the match, Styles was the one with all the momentum and he threw everything at Rollins but was unable to crack the Universal Champion, which left him in a state of shock when he was pinned off the curb stomp.

#4 Seth Rollins has a rematch against Brock Lesnar

Seth Rollins has only defended his Championship against Kofi Kingston and AJ Styles in the past month, but he was able to defeat Brock Lesnar to become Champion which means that The Beast will be wanting that rematch and he is expected to come to call for it in Saudi Arabia.

June 7th is the first time that Brock Lesnar will be in a WWE ring since he lost the Universal Championship and now it appears that he will be calling on Rollins to hand him his rematch. Local advertisements have already confirmed that the match is happening in The Middle East, but WWE needed to wait until after Rollins retained against AJ Styles so that they didn't give away the result at tonight's Money In The Bank pay-per-view.

#3 This feud is far from over

Seth Rollins and AJ Styles will cross paths again
Seth Rollins and AJ Styles will cross paths again

AJ Styles and Seth Rollins just set Money In The Bank on fire and there is no way that the company is going to allow this feud to end as quickly as it started. If Rollins is able to retain against Brock Lesnar in Saudi Arabia next month, then there is no reason why this match can't happen again at SummerSlam.

Styles and Rollins are two of the biggest stars on Monday Night Raw, but they are both faces, which means that at some point there needs to be a change in character and this would then lead to a very different match where AJ Styles would then be seen as a legitimate challenger for Rollins and someone that The Architect can feud with for a number of months heading into the end of the year.

#2 AJ Styles now respects Seth Rollins

AJ Styles has been talking about how Rollins doesn't have what it takes to beat him over the past few weeks whilst building up to their match and has proven that he has no respect for the star that he defeated 13 years ago when he was an up and coming talent on the independent circuit.

Styles shook Rollins' hand after the match and showed that despite the build up over the past few weeks, he now has his respect. Styles threw everything he had at Rollins and even countered the Curb Stomp into the Styles Clash but this still wasn't enough for the former WWE Champion to keep Rollins down for a three count.

Styles had no idea what Rollins was about before tonight and now he's earned his respect, which is something that Rollins was searching for.

#1 AJ Styles heel turn

AJ Styles could turn heel in the near future
AJ Styles could turn heel in the near future

AJ Styles and Seth Rollins tore it up at Money In The Bank and even though Styles decided to shake hands with Rollins after the match, it's only so long before the fact that he was unable to defeat Rollins will begin to eat him.

This match would be so much better in the SummerSlam main event if AJ turns heel and is able to get under Rollins skin. This would mean that there would be an entirely different story behind it and it would allow Styles and Rollins to work together once again. The two men are at the forefront of Monday Night Raw at present alongside the Money in the Bank winner and I speak for the whole of the WWE Universe when I say that I want a rematch but this time with AJ Styles as a heel.
