This past Monday night saw the 2oth anniversary of WWE Monday Night RAW, and to go with the big event, a big WWE Divas Championship match that had been in the works took place between Kaitlyn and then-champion Eve Torres. After months of feuding, and Kaitlyn being on the cusp of breaking out on her own, “The Hybrid Diva” finally reached the pinnacle in women’s wrestling and scored her first Divas Championship, defeating Torres and sending her packing.
And when I say “sending her packing”, I mean that. Shortly after the match, Torres quit World Wrestling Entertainment, a result of dropping the title in storyline.
In reality, Torres has been planning to leave the WWE for a while. In fact, she asked for her release a month ago, but was likely kept on due to WWE losing several women recently, as well as wanting to start off the new year with the push of a new talent.

Torres plans to leave wrestling completely for the time being (probably for good), with no plans of showing up in TNA, ROH, or any other wrestling promotion currently out there. Instead, Torres will focus on spending time with her husband, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu 3rd degree black-belt star Rener Gracie, who also hosts “Gracie Breakdowns” on UFC Ultimate Insider. In addition to spending time with her husband, she also plans to focus more on her role as the head instructor for the “Gracie Women Empowered” self-defense program. For those that are unaware, Torres is trained in both Brazilian and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu herself, and also competes in kick-boxing.
Kaitlyn’s defeat of Torres culminated in a long-running angle that started at last year’s Night of Champions pay-per-view, where Kaitlyn was removed from her title match against then-champion Layla after being attacked by a blonde woman backstage (in reality, Kaitlyn needed time off to rehab an injury). Since then, Kaitlyn had defeated Torres in several non-title matches. She had also defeated Torres in championship matches, but in both cases, won the matches by disqualification and count-out, respectively, resulting in Torres retaining the championship both times. In their final encounter for the belt this past Monday, Kaitlyn finally won the championship from Torres in a match where disqualifications and count-outs on Torres would still result in her losing the championship and ending the near 6-month feud between the two.
Torres ends a near 6-year run with the company that began in 2007, when she won that year’s “Diva Search” competition.
