WWE has released several superstars in 2024. A two-time champion returned to the ring for his first match after leaving the company.
The recent wave of talent releases has affected WWE fans over the years. Cameron Grimes was one of the top names who was seen as a future top star, but the company released him on April 23, 2024.
Grimes had a promising main roster debut, where he defeated Baron Corbin in just six seconds to get social media chirping. However, he took a loss to Bron Breakker in his final match on the April 12, 2024 episode of SmackDown.
The former NXT North American Champion appeared for his first in-ring match just over three months after his release. During Black Label Pro’s Old Habits Die Screaming even in Chicago, Cameron Grimes made his in-ring return.

Competing under his real name Trevor Lee, he quickly defeated Eli Isom to get fans talking. After 94 days of his WWE release, Grimes is once again set for greater things if he continues to get good bookings outside the Stamford-based wrestling promotion.
Cameron Grimes had a great rivalry with LA Knight in NXT that catapulted both stars. He also underwent a great physical transformation after his main roster move that helped him expand his fanbase.
Cameron Grimes is interested in signing with AEW after WWE
Cameron Grimes is one of the bigger names who will likely be nabbed by a top promotion soon. In a recent interview, Grimes’ expressed his interest in working for Tony Khan’s AEW down the line.
Grimes noted that AEW is doing a good job and stirring up a storm in the industry. That’s why he is interested in working for Tony Khan’s company someday.
"I have interest in absolutely every company. But, I do have interest in AEW. Why wouldn’t I? It’s doing what they’re supposed to do and it’s shocking the culture and it’s stirring up a firestorm that is the new era of wrestling so, of course."
Fans will hope to see the two-time WWE champion work his way up and become a top name in the industry once again. It will be good to see him work in TNA or AEW down the line.
