WWE held its final show of the year on Monday from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. A top female star delivered an emotional message to her fans after quite possibly the biggest win of her career so far.
Dakota Kai faced off against Zoey Stark in the semifinals of the Women's Intercontinental Championship tournament. After a back-and-forth match, Kai was able to hit the TTYL, a variation of the Detonation Kick, on Stark for the victory.
The Damage CTRL member is set to clash against Lyra Valkyria, who beat IYO SKY in the other semi-final, in the final on the January 13 episode of RAW to crown the inaugural Women's Intercontinental Champion. Kai was overwhelmed emotionally as she shared a message for her followers on X after the last WWE show of 2024.
"Ending 2024 with a win and massive goals ahead for the new year. Honestly.. Thank you all for having my back, even with all the ups and downs. You truly are my driving force and helping me feel that passion again," Kai tweeted.
A top AEW star just called one of his colleagues 'spoiled' and 'narcissistic' HERE.
WWE first introduced the Women's United States Championship on SmackDown back in November. 12 superstars battled it out in a similar tournament, with Chelsea Green beating Michin in the final at Saturday Night's Main Event.
Dakota Kai determined to win the WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship
After beating Katana Chance and Shayna Baszler in the first round of the tournament, Dakota Kai was confident that she would win the Women's Intercontinental Championship. Kai told Cathey Kelley in an interview backstage that the new title will look good around her waist.
"That IC Championship? It would look so good around my waist. It’s in my crosshairs right now. It’s my time, it’s my time! I can’t wait to prove to everyone, and to myself, that I deserve this more than anything. I'm so pumped," Kai said. [H/T - WrestleZone]
Dakota Kai has been in WWE since 2016, spending four years in NXT before she was released in April 2022. Kai would later sign a new deal to return to the company four months later, debuting on the main roster as part of Damage CTRL, along with Bayley and IYO SKY.
Kai has been through it all in her journey, mostly dealing with injuries to both her knees over the years. She most recently had a torn meniscus on her right knee, but has since recovered and is one win away from her first singles title.
