36-year-old WWE star takes his revenge; costs rivals major opportunity

The June 25, 2024, episode of WWE NXT began with a high-voltage Tag Team Turmoil match. The slugfest involved five tag teams taking on each other, with two teams starting the match in the ring, and the rest coming out one after the other after a result. The winning team stood the chance to earn a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championship. However, a 30-year-old WWE star ensured that his rivals didn’t win this major opportunity.

Legado Del Fantasma has been hunting Apollo Crews down for quite some time now. They used the numbers game to their advantage against him during a match on SmackDown on June 14. On that occasion, Baron Corbin attempted to help Crews, but the LDF eventually got their way, giving Santos Escobar a pinfall victory.

Tonight, Crews got his revenge on LDF’s Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo by distracting them from a big opportunity.

Garza and Carrillo had attacked the 30-year-old superstar during a backstage interview on the blue brand. On WWE NXT tonight though, the cross-branded solo mission by Crews resulted in the tag team duo getting eliminated by New Catch Republic.

This move will now most certainly warrant a more brutal retaliation from Santos Escobar and his crew on SmackDown. However, Crews has dealt a major blow to Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo by eliminating their chance to get a prestigious title shot on NXT tonight. It would be interesting to see how the heel faction responds as WWE goes to Mexico in July.
