John Laurinaitis worked as a WWE behind-the-scenes executive and occasional on-screen character between 2001 and 2022. In a recent interview, Sylvain Grenier recalled how a backstage interaction with Vince McMahon's former right-hand man led to him receiving a punishment.

Grenier is best known for his appearances on WWE's main roster between 2003 and 2007. The 47-year-old won the tag titles three times with Rob Conway and once with Rene Dupree. He also performed as a singles competitor in 2005 and 2006.

On Developmentally Speaking, Grenier said he once yelled at Laurinaitis during his run as the Ambassador for Quebec character. The heated exchange resulted in him losing several matches against Vito.

"I blew up backstage, a gasket, in front of everybody at Gorilla [backstage area], something happened, and I screamed at Johnny Ace [John Laurinaitis] and I started losing to Vito on SmackDown every week for the next three, four weeks, so that was my fault," Grenier stated. [30:52 – 31:08]

Grenier also discussed the two-time WWE Hall of Famer he was supposed to defeat in his debut match.

What happened after Sylvain Grenier shouted at John Laurinaitis in WWE

Shortly after the incident with John Laurinaitis, Sylvain Grenier became frustrated at an untelevised live event and went off-script by grabbing the microphone.

At that moment, the former La Resistance member knew his time in WWE was almost certainly over.

"They gave me another break after, and something happened again at a house show," Grenier continued. "I took the microphone. I wasn't supposed to. I cannot do nothing. At that point, we were going our separate ways, so some people didn't like what I was trying to do. Okay, I'm gonna do it somewhere else. No worries." [31:10 – 31:33]

Grenier went on to work for TNA as a French language commentator. He also briefly returned to WWE as a producer in 2020. Laurinaitis, meanwhile, left the Stamford-based promotion in 2022, amid misconduct allegations.
