A former WWE Champion has officially returned to the Stamford-based promotion at a recent live show in Japan. The star had assumably left World Wrestling Entertainment after suffering a major loss in a high-profile championship match.
AJ Styles locked horns with Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash of the Castle 2024 in an "I Quit" match. Both superstars engaged in a ferocious battle, but in the end, it was The Phenomenal One who succumbed to the relentless pressure. The 47-year-old veteran uttered the dreaded words, and The American Nightmare retained his title.
After assumably leaving the sports entertainment giant, the former Bullet Club member returned to Japan at the Pro Wrestling NOAH Destination and defeated Naomichi Marufuji.
Today, at the SuperShow Live Event in Osaka, Japan, AJ Styles made a surprising return to WWE and faced Shinsuke Nakamura and Rhodes for the world title. The American Nightmare, however, retained his championship over his opponents.

WWE veteran is a fan of AJ Styles
The 2012 Hall of Fame inductee Ron Simmons, aka Faarooq, recently shared his two cents on The Phenomenal One's run in WWE and his in-ring work.
During an interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling's Senior Editor Bill Apter, Simmons revealed that he has taken a break from wrestling and watches it very rarely.
"After you play ball or you've been in a sport so long, you still love it, but you take a little bit of a break from it, but I still tune in because it's in my blood," he said.
The wrestling veteran further went on to explain why AJ Styles is one of the best in-ring performers in the modern era.
"I'm old school; that'll never get out of me, so I love old style. I love everything about the nostalgia of wrestling, what I came up being a part of. So, you know, I like to see guys mix a little bit of the new with old. I like to watch AJ Styles wrestle; you know what I mean?"
