John Cena is an inspiration to many WWE fans. However, R-Truth, despite being older than The Cenation Leader, comedically refers to the latter as his "childhood hero." The 52-year-old veteran recently shared the origin story of this amusing dynamic.
Since returning to WWE in 2023 after a frightening medical situation, Truth has emulated Cena's signature moves and even adopted his signature attire of jean shorts (jorts) and wristbands. Furthermore, the former 24/7 Champion has humorously declared The Franchise Player as his childhood hero.
In an interview with Chris Van Vliet on INSIGHT, R-Truth recounted an interaction with John Cena where he confessed to being a childhood fan. The former WWE Champion responded positively and encouraged Truth to incorporate elements of his style into his character:

"I text [ed] John Cena and asked him about dressing like him, and I got the, 'Hahaha,' the laughing emoji, 'And I think it's great, I think it's great. Run with it. So [he] just became my childhood hero with his blessings," he said. [From 15:32 to 15:47]

WWE hypes John Cena's upcoming appearance
The 16-time World Champion last competed on the April 8, 2024, installment of Monday Night RAW. John Cena teamed up with Truth, and The Miz to defeat The Judgment Day's JD McDonagh, Finn Balor, and Dominik Mysterio.
John Cena's Farewell Tour is set to commence with his appearance on the premiere episode of RAW on Netflix, scheduled for January 6, 2025. WWE has billed this event as "the beginning of the end" of The Franchise Player's illustrious wrestling career.
"2025 will mark John Cena's Farewell Tour and the first stop will be at the RAW on Netflix Premiere in the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. What will 2025 look like for The Greatest of All Time? Don't miss the beginning of the end, next week at 8 ET/5 PT on Netflix!" reads the official RAW preview.
It remains to be seen who will be The Cenation Leader's first opponent on his retirement tour, which is scheduled to conclude by December 2025.
