Former WWE wrestler Buff Bagwell has commented on his sobriety and newfound relationship with faith. After many years of living an alcoholic lifestyle, he admitted that he's currently sober.
The 54-year-old wrestling veteran is mostly known for his time in WCW, where he held the WCW World Tag Team Championship on five different occasions. He made the jump to WWE in 2001 after WCW was purchased by the Stamford-based company that year. He had a very brief stint in WWE, as he was released from his contract that same year. He worked as a male escort at one point in his life.
During a recent appearance on The Snake Pit, Buff Bagwell stated that he's enjoying being sober and that he found a new relationship with God.
"Sober is better. I literally am on fire about two things and it's about sobriety and about Christ. I have found a new relationship with God through this. I really believe the biggest part of my success... you're gonna have to find something to replace the drugs and alcohol... My three [things] are God, my relationship with Stacy Brown, and my health, in that order... You're gonna have to fill that void with something or you're gonna go back to [using]," he said. Former WWE writer Vince Russo believes Vince McMahon set Buff Bagwell up for failure
Buff Bagwell made his televised WWE debut on the July 2 episode of RAW, where he collided with Booker T for the WCW Championship. The match was widely panned by fans.
Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws show, Vince Russo set Buff Bagwell up for failure due to his backstage issues with Jim Ross.
"He [Vince McMahon] set him [Buff Bagwell] up for failure, a hundred percent, bro. I've read enough about the issues that JR was having with Buff Bagwell. He was having issues with Buff. They definitely made an example out of him, set him up for failure, without a shadow of a doubt."
Buff Bagwell is still involved in the wrestling. He competed in a match a few months ago in April.
