WWE analyst Sam Roberts recently suggested that Cody Rhodes may lose his championship to a top superstar ahead of WrestleMania 41. He claimed that the mentioned wrestler could then defend the title against John Cena at WrestleMania in a massive match.
Rhodes is currently in a storyline with Kevin Owens and Randy Orton. Meanwhile, John Cena will embark on his retirement tour in 2025. The Leader of the Cenation has confirmed that he will be at the Royal Rumble next February.
On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Roberts suggested The American Nightmare could drop his Undisputed WWE Championship to The Viper at Royal Rumble. Meanwhile, Cena could win the 2025 Men's Royal Rumble match to challenge his former rival for the title.
Cena and Orton both debuted on the main roster in 2002. They had a heated rivalry seven years later. However, they never squared off at WrestleMania:
Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE
"Now, we're talking the what if scenarios are anything from, you know, who's gonna win the Royal Rumble to face Cody Rhodes? What if Randy Orton takes the title? Now this one has to go. Maybe John Cena wins the Royal Rumble, Randy Orton wins the WWE Championship, now you've got your WrestleMania match. There's so many ways you could go," he said. [57:56 - 58:20]
Randy Orton addressed potentially facing John Cena on his WWE retirement tour
Since John Cena announced his retirement tour, many fans have expressed their desire to see the Leader of the Cenation square off one more time against Randy Orton.
In an interview with Adam's Apple, the 14-time World Champion addressed the possibility of facing Cena at WrestleMania or in the latter's final match in WWE. He revealed that they are leaving that decision to the creative team:
"John and I just let Creative do what they do. And if it's meant to be, then, you know, it'll be meant to be. But I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it," he said.
Cena and Orton last wrestled in a one-on-one match in 2017. It will be interesting to see if they will square off again before the 16-time World Champion hangs up his boots.
