9-time WWE champion wants to face Rey Mysterio in singles match; the two never wrestled one-on-one

A top WWE Superstar recently claimed he wants to face Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio in a one-on-one match. The star is set for a world title match at the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event on December 14, 2024.

Kevin Owens and Mysterio have faced each other in the ring multiple times but not in a singles contest. Their last encounter occurred on the April 12, 2024, episode of Friday Night SmackDown in a Triple Threat Match that also included AJ Styles.

As of now, The Prizefighter is set to collide with Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SNME this weekend. Ahead of NBC's special show, Owens was asked about his desired opponent for a storyline leading into WrestleMania 41.

In an interview with Mail Sport, Kevin Owens acknowledged the difficulty of identifying future goals, given his extensive career accomplishments. The 40-year-old star expressed a desire to face Rey Mysterio in a singles match, as this is a contest that he has yet to experience:

"I have less and less answers for those questions because I have already accomplished a lot and done a lot of things I didn’t think I would get to do. I have still never had a singles match with Rey Mysterio," he said. (H/T DailyMail)

Major WWE star takes a shot at Rey Mysterio

The Master of the 619 recently celebrated his 50th birthday. On social media, The New Day's Xavier Woods mocked Rey Mysterio.

On the September 30, 2024, edition of Monday Night RAW, Woods faced off against the WWE Hall of Famer in a singles match. The New Day member emerged victorious after accidentally ripping off his opponent's iconic mask.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Xavier Woods suggested that someone should get Rey Mysterio a tighter mask:

"Someone should get him a tighter mask for his birthday," he wrote.
