AJ Lee's status and retirement have been final for a while now - especially considering that it has been nine years since her retirement. In an interview with Screen Rant, she may have indirectly confirmed her status.

Many fans have been wanting to see AJ Lee return to WWE - more so after her husband CM Punk returned last year and acknowledged her - something that hasn't happened much on WWE television since her retirement. Regardless, she has been wearing other hats like writing, directing, and producing. She is in the Michael Cera-led film Sacramento.

In an interview with Screen Rant while promoting Sacramento, AJ Lee was asked about her career transition and what inspired her to take up the movie role. In her reply, she seemingly confirmed her status as a retired athlete, and which is why she could relate to her character in the film.

"I really related to my character's transition. She was an athlete and is now a mother, and so she's trying to grapple with finding her place and trying to figure out what her identity is. As a retired athlete entering into a new career producing and acting, you have to learn how to be human again. It's an awkward time, but the point of this movie is that those new transitions can be really beautiful. It's an evolution."

What exactly did CM Punk say about AJ Lee's status?

After directly costing Drew McIntyre in a World Heavyweight Championship match for the third time in three months, CM Punk was asked about his wife's status and a possible return to WWE and this is what he said.

"You would have to ask my wife, but she's not here. She's taking care of Larry. Umm, I don't wanna fall in the trap of saying, 'Never say never.' I don't wanna give people false hope. I also will not put words in her mouth and say, 'I think this could happen.' I think this is a brave new world and I don't think a lot of people thought I was gonna show up, you know."

From the look of things, a one-off might not be out of the books. Perhaps even a WWE Hall of Fame induction would be suitable for her.
