WWE Superstar Austin Theory recently opened up about how he felt after doing a promo battle with John Cena. The 16-time World Champion had completely destroyed Theory on the microphone heading into WrestleMania 39.
Cena is one of the greatest names to ever step inside the squared circle. He has been the face of World Wrestling Entertainment for over two decades. The Cenation Leader now focuses more on his Hollywood career but shows up on WWE television from time to time. In recent years, The Franchise Player has been booked to put over young stars like Austin Theory and Solo Sikoa.
However, ahead of his loss to Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39, John Cena made his electrifying return to RAW and cut a promo against the former United States Champion. That segment is considered one of the most brutal promos ever by The Cenation Leader, in which he roasted Theory with some scathing references that shocked the fans as well.
During an interview with Chris Van Vliet on INSIGHT, Austin Theory talked about the controversial promo, saying that he had watched it back and believed it was just John Cena playing his on-screen character.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
"I think for me, because I've watched it back, and I've seen it in some of the things he said and stuff. And I just think it's the character. I think he just wants to see me and it's hard for me to just say exactly what he means. I kind of see where it is and if people can, kind of pick up on what I'm trying to say, but I think he just sees more of who I really am being displayed in a different way," he said. [H/T INSIGHT]

John Cena explained why he destroyed Austin Theory ahead of WWE WrestleMania 39
In May 2024, John Cena did an interview with Chris Van Vliet on INSIGHT. During the conversation, The Cenation Leader said he saw a lot of potential in Austin Theory and explained that he wanted the former WWE United States Champion to learn the things he would eventually get the hang of in the future.
"I was really close to the chest with Austin Theory when we were able to go back and forth verbally. I see so much potential in him, and I wanna shake him and be like, 'You're gonna learn all this stuff. I just wish you would learn it today,'" Cena said.
After defeating John Cena at WWE WrestleMania 39, many fans believe Austin Theory has not been booked properly as a singles star. It will be interesting to see what the Triple H-led creative team has planned for Theory's future.
