WWE veteran Bruce Prichard recently shared controversial thoughts about a legend's abilities on the mic. This prompted another name to share his take, which did not align with Bruce's.
The legend, Ricky Steamboat, was undoubtedly an impressive presence in the ring. However, Bruce thinks he would not work as well in later periods, considering it featured an increasing number of promos in the ring. Despite Ricky's commendable in-ring talent, Bruce believes he does not boast the same skill level on the mic.
On Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine, Bill Apter was asked to comment on the topic. He stated:
"He stayed in character, he was always serious with his promos. He was to the point, but he wasn't outrageous if that's what Bruce is talking about. A lot of guys today are outrageous on the microphone. Ricky Steamboat, in any era, would be a major superstar... Including this era, if he was in his prime. He'd be one of the best ring competitors." Another WWE veteran thinks Ricky Steamboat could have had a great heel run
According to Vince Russo, Steamboat had everything it took to embark on a storyline as a heel if booked properly by WWE.
Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws, Russo stated the details of a possible heel run during the Attitude era in WWE. He said:
"He just comes across as a really, really good guy," Russo stated. "Maybe that's where you start. Maybe he's the good guy in this Attitude Era who's getting scr*wed and scr*wed over and over and over and bypassed over and over and over, so the light bulb kinda goes off. I would have loved to see a Ricky 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' Steamboat. Would have loved to see that. And you know what? I bet you he could have pulled it off," he said.
It remains to be seen if Ricky Steamboat himself will comment on this topic down the line.
