Former WWE Superstar Chris Masters shared an interesting message ahead of tonight's edition of SmackDown. The upcoming episode of the blue brand was taped last week in Hartford, Connecticut.

Masters has not competed in a match for the company since he was released in 2011. However, the veteran has remained active on the independent wrestling scene since he was let go. Ahead of tonight's edition of SmackDown, the 41-year-old teased a return to the Stamford-based promotion by taking to his Instagram story and shared a video of himself walking to the ring with his old WWE entrance music playing.

The veteran never captured a title during his time in WWE. However, he has had considerable success outside the company and is a former two-time NWA National Champion.

Chris Masters addresses potential WWE return

Chris Masters (now known as Chris Adonis) recently discussed the possibility of him making a return to the Stamford-based company.

Adonis has performed for several promotions after he was released from World Wrestling Entertainment over a decade ago. He remains in phenomenal shape and competed at the BRCW Festival of Fights on December 15 but lost to Madman Fulton.

In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling's Riju Dasgupta earlier this year, Masters commented on a potential return to WWE. He noted that he was not sure if a return to the promotion was on the table, but disclosed that he was looking to work for a major wrestling company.

"I don't know if it's with WWE. All I know is I am striving for something more. I did work with the NWA for a couple years and it was a good platform, I feel. I did a lot of good things there, had a lot of great matches, and really just tried to evolve Chris Masters, or Chris Adonis, and work on that part of my game and approach my whole game differently," he said. The promotion welcomed back several legends at Saturday Night's Main Event earlier this month. Only time will tell if Chris Masters ever gets the chance to return to the company down the line.
