CM Punk is arguably the best well-rounded wrestler WWE has seen in decades. The Best in the World recently opened up about the surprising reason why he decided to become a professional wrestler.

CM Punk recently got out of a rivalry against Scottish Superstar Drew McIntyre. Coincidentally, Punk revealed that the late Roddy Piper, whose father was a Scottish-Canadian, was the reason he got into the world of wrestling.

Roddy was presented as a Scotsman for most of his career, although he was a Canadian by birth. His unique presentation, with the kilt and bagpipes, helped him get over with fans and inspire a generation of wrestlers.

In a talk with Roots of Fight posted on Instagram, CM Punk opened up about Piper being the major influence in his decision to become a professional wrestler.

"Piper is special to me because Piper was, and is, the reason I became a professional wrestler," said The Best in the World.

He explained that he saw many big guys in WWE when he was young. However, 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper was one of the smaller guys who talked a lot as a heel, and that appealed to Punk. He added that he believed Piper was a millionaire, and he wanted to become the same.

"I'm from the Midwest, so we predominantly got WWE television. So I saw Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, all these big, giant dudes and then you know, you discover Roddy Piper and he's a 'smaller' guy, just talking mass amounts of s**t and he was on my television. So, I just figured he was a millionaire and I was like, 'That's it. That's what I want to do.'"

CM Punk is regarded as one of the best wrestlers of his generation because of his work on the mic and in the ring. Despite his controversial past, he remains one of the most sought-after talents in the industry.

CM Punk will likely face Seth Rollins in WWE soon

The rivalry between CM Punk and Seth Rollins has been brewing ever since the former returned at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023. WWE has kept the two men close to each other but they haven’t traded many blows.

The creative team will likely book this rivalry before fans get over it. The WWE Universe could see Punk return from injury soon to cost Rollins a big match.

The result will see an instant rivalry between the two stars that could stretch till WrestleMania 41. The two men are arguably the biggest stars on RAW, and it would be great to see them go head-to-head at some top premium live events.
