Suffice it to say that Cody Rhodes had a magical month of April, as he kickstarted his first reign as WWE Champion. He finally won the title 17 years after his on-screen debut.
Five years ago, one of his contemporaries was able to pull this off in a surprisingly similar scenario after years of hard work, with that man being Kofi Kingston. When The New Day star made his WWE debut, the company introduced him as a Jamaican. The viewers were naturally puzzled as to why he gradually let go of the accent, as Kofi was only settling in the eyes of the fans.
When Twitter/X user Queen Bee claimed that she doesn't know a single African soul who lied that they were Jamaican, the former WWE Champion had a hilarious reaction to it:
Corey Graves deleted his Tweet! More details HERE.
At one point, Triple H called out Kingston on-screen on an episode of Monday Night RAW for no longer having a Jamaican accent. The New Day star's reaction on X evoked some hilarious reactions from longtime fans and even WWE star Trinity Fatu (aka Naomi):
Returning to the Stamford-based promotion after a decade in November 2023, CM Punk caught up with some old friends on Monday Night RAW. This included his former tag team partner Kofi Kingston, with whom he held the WWE Tag Team Championship together at one point.
Kofi Kingston would trade all of his WWE Royal Rumble spots avoiding elimination for one thing
One of the things Kofi Kingston is best known for during his tenure in the Stamford-based promotion is his association with miraculous escapes from elimination in the Royal Rumble.
Speaking to Wrestling Inc. ahead of this year's annual show, Kingston revealed that despite it being something fans cherish, there is one thing he would rather do. That is to win the Rumble match and headline WrestleMania once again:
"...That's where the danger comes in is that there's always an opportunity or a chance that these moments don't succeed," Kingston explained. "But to me, the greatest moment of all time would be to actually win the Royal Rumble and being in that exclusive circle of people who have won. And of course, you punch your ticket to WrestleMania and wrestle the main event for the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship or whatever title you choose, to be honest. But to be in the main event at WrestleMania, I would trade all of those moments to have one Royal Rumble win."
His sole Show of Shows' main event happened in 2019 when he ended the reign of Bryan Danielson (fka Daniel Bryan) at WrestleMania 35. The fans had organically got behind The New Day star as the right man to dethrone Bryan, who was having a remarkable run of his own as "The Planet's Champion."
