Former WWE head writer Vince Russo spoke about Cody Rhodes' title reign and his possible opponents in the Stamford-based company. The 39-year-old star is part of the SmackDown roster and is arguably the biggest babyface at the moment.
The tensions between Rhodes and Kevin Owens came to the forefront this week on SmackDown. First, KO refused Cody's help to face The Bloodline in a tag team match and rather chose to fight side-by-side with Randy Orton. Later, Owens was irate with Rhodes after his interference cost them the match.
While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's BroDown with Vince Russo podcast, the 63-year-old veteran detailed that WWE just wanted to prolong the storyline between Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes. He felt KO would eventually turn heel and the two stars would clash again. However, Russo felt that Owens would not win championship gold anytime soon. He detailed that WWE was done with pushing The Prizefighter and he would not be on the top of the roster ever again.
"The reality of the situation, bro, is they ain't gonna do nothing with Kevin Owens, man. They're not putting Kevin Owens over Cody Rhodes anytime soon. So, they had a match and they teased that Owens was gonna turn. Owens didn't turn. So now, Owens is gonna turn and we're gonna have another match between Cody and Owens. It prolongs everything, bro. Everything gets stretched out," Vince Russo said. [6:03 - 6:37]
