Cody Rhodes is approaching 100 days as the Undisputed WWE Champion. However, a former WWE writer believes The American Nightmare could lose his title soon to a top SmackDown star.
The superstar in question is Solo Sikoa. The self-proclaimed new Tribal Chief of The Bloodline recently pinned Rhodes at Money in the Bank to earn the victory for his team over the champion, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens. Last night on SmackDown, The American Nightmare stated that he was willing to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam against the 31-year-old. Many expect Roman Reigns to return at the premium live event to confront his cousin, who has led a coup against him.
Meanwhile, former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. addressed the future of Rhodes in case Reigns is not returning soon on his Wrestling with Freddie podcast. While some suggested Randy Orton could turn on him and even dethrone him, Prinze Jr. claimed The American Nightmare could lose the title to Solo Sikoa before recapturing it quickly:
"I think Cody has a chance to lose the title, but he'll get it back quickly the way Randy and John went back and forth with one another. That's the only way I see this story working without Roman Reigns coming back sooner rather than later to stop all of Solo's plans and say, 'No, no, no, no, no, I'm The Tribal Chief. You are not The Tribal Chief.' Cody's gonna have a different story, and we're gonna focus on this Bloodline story here, and there'll be other challengers for Cody Rhodes to face," he said. Is Solo Sikoa's character ready to hold the Undisputed WWE Championship?
On the same episode of Wrestling with Freddie, Freddie Prinze Jr. praised Solo Sikoa's in-ring work. However, he wondered if the 31-year-old's character was ready to hold the Undisputed WWE Championship.
The former WWE writer questioned if the new self-proclaimed Tribal Chief's character is too new and if his winning the title would break the fans' suspension of disbelief:
"If they did that, is Solo Sikoa, the character, ready, and would the belt even look right on him or is it still too new? Is he still too fresh of a character? Not in the ring. His work's super clean and you can see he uses psychology really well. I'm not talking about the man. I'm talking about the character. Is the character ready to wear gold or would that break out suspension of disbelief?" [21:10 - 21:42]
Last night on SmackDown, The Bloodline destroyed Rhodes and Randy Orton. It would be interesting to see how this storyline would develop and whether the former NXT North American Champion could be the one to dethrone The American Nightmare.
