Cody Rhodes has made an interesting claim about breaking kayfabe following a recent WWE documentary. The SmackDown star is battling The Bloodline on the blue brand and has agreed to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa at SummerSlam 2024.
The promotion recently released the WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain documentary on YouTube and gave fans a glimpse at what happened behind the scenes ahead of The Show of Shows. Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast, The American Nightmare claimed the documentary is as far as breaking kayfabe should go and noted that sometimes a legendary story can be better than what actually happened.
"Well with the behind the scenes documentary, that’s really as far as I think you should ever go. Not because I don’t want people to know, but the legend is supposed to be cooler than the fact. So watching the documentary the other night, I feel like people have all these questions and there’s kind of these different outlooks and takes and I like that more than someone definitively saying no, here’s actually what happened," said Rhodes. Dutch Mantell blasts Cody Rhodes for his actions on WWE SmackDown
Former WWE manager Dutch Mantell was not happy with Cody Rhodes' decision to confront The Bloodline by himself on SmackDown.
Speaking on this past Friday's edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling's Smack Talk show, Mantell questioned Rhodes' choice to enter the ring with The Bloodline alone. He added that he didn't feel sympathy for the champion as it was not a wise decision.
"Cody lost me. He's gonna stand there and pull his jacket off with four guys there. Everybody knew what was coming. Them beating the cr*p out of him didn't get him a lot of sympathy. He got his own a*s whipped because of his own ignorance. You're gonna stand there and fight four of them then he gets what he gets." [From 04:34 onwards]

The Rock was originally supposed to battle Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania XL but the company changed course after negative feedback from fans. Cody Rhodes wound up dethroning The Tribal Chief in the main event of this year's Show of Shows in Philadelphia and is still the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion. Roman Reigns has not returned to television since his loss to The American Nightmare in April.
