Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes recently opened up about a key aspect he disliked during his promo wars with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on the Road to WrestleMania XL. It's that he 'bit back' at The Final Boss by using coarse language at one point.

Rhodes admitted that he felt bad for ultimately breaking despite repeated attempts throughout to refrain from using it in his babyface promos. This is because he wants to set a good example for kids, something John Cena did in the late aughts.

While speaking on The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast recently, The American Nightmare reminisced about his first stint in WWE briefly with Matt Cardona and Bryan Myers—formerly Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins. At the time, John Cena was the face of the company and often played his cards right when it came to the younger demographic.

"It changes everything, I don't want to curse. I felt bad when I finally bit back at Rock after just absolutely devouring us up with very you know non-PG stuff and he's the literal boss in addition to being The Final Boss so he can do that and I felt alright, if he can do it, I can do it too and I felt bad. I just want to set a good example for them. [...] He's [John Cena] just set a good standard and I'm very happy, hopefully, to be carrying it forward." [From 41:52 onwards]

The American Nightmare's latest title defense took place this past weekend in Glasgow, where he put away AJ Styles in a brutal "I Quit" match. He later disclosed that on account of Solo Sikoa's attack post-match, The Bloodline is once again on his radar.

Cody Rhodes also touched upon the use of blood in WWE

Cody Rhodes was busted open during his "I Quit" match against AJ Styles. Regarding the use of blood in WWE, on the contrary, The American Nightmare is for it. He defended it by reminding that blood has always been part of professional wrestling.

The former AEW EVP further brought up his backstage fight with The Rock ahead of WrestleMania XL in which he was bleeding in the rain:

"It’s very fun to see. Blood is part of sports entertainment, part of pro wrestling. It's in a weird way, I don’t mean to sound toxic at all, it’s nice to see it celebrated in the packaging and in this moment. And actually, I gave myself a nice pat on the back for recently going into WrestleMania, I was the first WWE shirt that got a little blood on it as well. They had done the skull with a little cut up top after Rock beat the hell out of me in the rain," he said.

Considering how The Final Boss left things on the RAW after WrestleMania and him addressing WrestleMania 41 and the biggest match left fans wondering if he was referring to him stepping in the ring one-on-one versus The American Nightmare.
