Former WWE head writer Vince Russo was not happy with Cody Rhodes' segment at the start of Monday Night RAW.
The American Nightmare kicked off this week's show, addressing the fans about his match at Backlash against Brock Lesnar. Rhodes bragged about his win, mentioning that he defeated The Beast Incarnate and that he had now set his sights on the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Night of Champions.
On this week's episode of Legion of RAW, Vince Russo pointed out that it was almost eight minutes that the show was on air before Cody spoke a word. He felt that this turned off a lot of fans waiting for some action.
"We are seven and a half, eight minutes into this show before Cody Rhodes speaks a word. That's not how you hook people. You know what that is? We just stayed eight minutes and nobody even said a word. That is against every single thing I was taught to write successful television. Eight minutes in before Cody Rhodes says, 'Wherever we are, what do you wanna talk about?' Eight minutes into the show." [From 14:00 - 14:37]

Brock Lesnar attacked Cody Rhodes on WWE RAW
This week's RAW set off the first round of triple-threat matches for the World Heavyweight Championship tournament.
Seth Rollins defeated Shinsuke Nakamura and Damian Priest in the first match. In the second, Cody had almost sealed the win over Finn Balor and The Miz when Brock Lesnar blindsided him. The Beast laid him out with two F5s at ringside.
Lesnar then challenged Cody to a match at Night of Champions. Later, in a backstage segment with Cathy Kelley, The American Nightmare accepted the challenge, setting up the match for the upcoming premium live event on May 27, 2023, in Jeddah.
