Cody Rhodes reached an impressive milestone ahead of this week's edition of WWE SmackDown. Rhodes successfully defended his Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens at Saturday Night's Main Event on December 14.

Owens unleashed a heinous attack following the match and planted the champion with a Package Piledriver. Despite being the victim of the brutal assault by Owens over the weekend, Rhodes has now reached a major milestone as champion. The 39-year-old has now eclipsed 200 days as champion following his victory over Owens at Saturday Night's Main Event.

Cody Rhodes was taken out of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum this past Saturday night following the attack by Owens. The Prizefighter was confronted by Triple H on the entrance ramp following the attack, and the two stars shoved each other.

Kevin Owens comments on attacking Cody Rhodes at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event

SmackDown star Kevin Owens recently commented on his attack on Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night's Main Event.

Owens hit Rhodes with a Stunner during the match, but referee Charles Robinson was inadvertently knocked out of the ring, and there was no one to make the cover. Referee Eddie Orengo rushed the ring but got hit with a Cody Cutter by accident. The challenger tried to use a steel chair, but the champion took it away from him and connected with a Cross Rhodes on top of the steel chair for the pinfall victory.

Kevin Owens snapped after the match and brutally attacked Cody Rhodes. The 40-year-old took to social media following Saturday Night's Main Event and attempted to justify his actions. The former champion claimed that the company's referees were incompetent and Rhodes deserved to be hit with the Package Piledriver.

"*EXCLUSIVE: After getting screwed out of becoming the Undisputed WWE Champion by incompetent referees, Kevin Owens justifiably gets retribution on The American Person with an often imitated, never truly duplicated, PACKAGE PILEDRIVER just moments after Saturday Night’s Main Event goes off the air to send everyone home happy. #SNME."

You can check out the veteran's message in the post below:

Owens also took out Randy Orton with a Piledriver last month, and The Viper still has not returned to SmackDown. Only time will tell what WWE has planned for the storyline moving forward on the blue brand.
