John Cena and Cody Rhodes will possibly go down in pro wrestling history as two of the greatest of all time. Cena is preparing to wrap up his in-ring career, while Rhodes is moving forward with his biggest run yet. A certain WWE Hall of Famer with ties to both men has just made an interesting comparison.

While Rhodes is mentioned in discussions about being the face of the company these days, Cena has been labeled The Face That Runs The Place, The Champ, and now The G.O.A.T. Despite labels and debates, there's a general feeling that both WWE Superstars have helped carry the promotion during their runs on top. John Bradshaw Layfield had something to say about the matter.

JBL is familiar with both Cody Rhodes and John Cena, and he knows a thing or two about successful championship runs. Filling in for Bruce Prichard on his Something To Wrestle With podcast, JBL compared the territory days to the brand split era, and how the current touring format had reduced pressure on the face of the company to acknowledge that they sold the arena out on any given night, or didn't draw a sell-out. He then praised Rhodes and compared him to Cena.

"You don't see that in a lot of people. You don't see that. I think Cody Rhodes has understood what being the main guy is, very well, and I think he's done an incredible job. I think he's done a wonderful job. The workload that he's under is so admirable. I mean, it's really, he's like Cena, the guy never stops," JBL said. [From 37:42 to 38:02]

John Bradshaw Layfield continued on Cody's understanding and execution of the responsibilities expected out of him as the face of the company. In terms of popularity as well as financial profits. Just like The Face That Runs The Place did.

"He [Cody Rhodes] understands how important it is, when you're the lead face, you got to put people in seats, put cash in the company's pockets. I think Cody does a terrific job with it. Cena did a terrific job with it. There's so many people that did, but there's a lot of champions in there, between that, that never really felt that that's a good point," JBL added. Cody Rhodes and John Bradshaw Layfield worked just three standard bouts together in WWE, and John Cena was involved. Cody, JBL, and Ted DiBiase suffered a RAW DQ loss to Cena and Cryme Tyme in July 2008, but one week later, the babyfaces won the rematch.

Rhodes and Layfield also worked the 2014 Royal Rumble, and the 17-on-2 RAW Elimination Match in 2008, which saw Cena and Randy Orton overcome the odds.
