Cody Rhodes felt "dejected" after a major situation happened following his WWE return. He made a successful comeback six years after his initial release in 2016.
The American Nightmare returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 and defeated Seth Rollins. He feuded with Rollins over the next two premium live events, competing in stellar bouts, including his popular Hell in a Cell Match. Rhodes wrestled inside the hellacious structure and won despite having a torn pectoral muscle.
In an appearance on The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast with Matt Cardona, Brian Myers and Mark Sterling, Rhodes discussed suffering a torn pec injury two months into his return to WWE. It was not a good feeling for him, although his match against Seth Rollins was universally praised.
"I can tell it means something to the fans who watched it there in the arena and the fans who watched it at home. But, for me, because it was just an embarrassing, dejected, awful feeling going through that day and then knowing in the few days leading up that it clearly was torn and it was getting worse. I love that people love it but also it's a weird feeling when I see it and I'm glad it catches on with people. They did an incredible job with it but it's just a strange, strange thing that's documented in your life," Rhodes said. [H/T: WrestlingInc.]
Cody Rhodes was out for seven months due to the injury. He returned as part of the 2023 Men's Royal Rumble Match and reigned supreme. He lost to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 before finally finishing the story in April 2024 to become the Undisputed WWE Champion in Philadelphia.
Cody Rhodes currently dealing with an injury
At a WWE Live Event in Bloomington, Indiana, on Saturday, Cody Rhodes told the crowd that he was currently suffering from two broken ribs. Last Friday on WWE SmackDown, the debuting Jacob Fatu delivered a massive splash to The American Nightmare on the announcer's desk.
"So before you hear it from anybody else, a little scoop for you, Bloomington. Last night, I did break two of my ribs. And the thought was, 'Well, you can take off Bloomington. You can take off Kalamazoo. You can even take off next Friday where the story began in 1978 in New York City. And my answer to that was emphatically, 100% hell no!" Rhodes said.
The Undisputed WWE Champion defeated Shinsuke Nakamura at the event in Bloomington and Kalamazoo, Michigan, on Sunday.
