Cody Rhodes' booking since WrestleMania XL has been a topic of debate among fans. Vince Russo, WWE's former head writer, recently addressed how he would deal with the creative team in The American Nightmare's situation.
On April 7, Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. Since then, the 39-year-old has retained the title twice against AJ Styles and once against Logan Paul. Although it has not been confirmed, Solo Sikoa looks set to be his next challenger at SummerSlam on August 3.
Some fans have raised concerns that the outcomes of Rhodes' title defenses have been too obvious. On Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo show, Russo encouraged the SmackDown star to speak up if he had better creative ideas:
"We can look at this and say, 'Cody's cooled off, he hasn't had any angles.' Yeah, and guess what, bro? Cody's making a ton of money. Period. He's making a ton of money. But if I'm Cody and I am not satisfied with creative, bro, I'm bringing them creative. I'm bringing them an A and a B and a C of something that I'd really, really like to do. I am bringing them creative," said Russo. [2:51 – 3:18]

Vince Russo on Cody Rhodes' status as WWE's top guy
During Roman Reigns' post-WrestleMania XL hiatus, Cody Rhodes has been presented as WWE's top attraction.
Vince Russo was known for prioritizing storytelling over in-ring action when he wrote for TNA, WCW, and WWE. Regarding the Stamford-based promotion's approach to creating megastars, he thinks the company lacks the writing ability it had in past generations:
"I don't think they know how to [create larger-than-life megastars]," Russo said. "I'm just telling you, bro, that takes writing. Not booking. That takes writing. And if you don't know how to write that, bro, because all you know is wrestling, you're gonna get wrestling, and that's what we're getting, bro. You talk about the 50/50 booking, the six-mans, that's exactly what we're getting." [8:54 – 9:21]
Russo also gave his take on a big mistake WWE's creative team has made with Solo Sikoa's new-look Bloodline.
