Cody Rhodes has defeated several top WWE Superstars, including Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, since his comeback. However, The American Nightmare has failed to score any victories against one massive star in the past. Former WWE host Matt Camp now believes Rhodes must square off against that wrestler.

The superstar in question is none other than John Cena. The Cenation Leader will hang up his boots by the end of 2025 after having one last run as an in-ring competitor in the Stamford-based company. On his The Wrestling Matt podcast, former The Bump host Matt Camp predicted that the 47-year-old legend would share the ring with Rhodes before he retired.

Cena and Rhodes had a few one-on-one matches during the latter's first WWE run. They all ended in victory for the 16-time World Champion. However, Camp said The American Nightmare could finally score a win over The Cenation Leader if they squared off again.

"They gotta do Cena/Cody, right? Like, you gotta do that just for the box office appeal. Like, that's gotta be one of them where either John or Cody just say, 'Hey, I need to know. I need to know. I gotta know if I can beat you.' Does Cody put him out? You know, he's the last challenge, Cody Rhodes. I don't think you go back to Roman, but there is, 'I gotta know. I gotta know if I can do it.' Because Cody Rhodes is the closest thing to John Cena the company's had," he said. [26:36 - 27:28]

Matt Camp doesn't want John Cena to face a WWE Superstar

On his The Wrestling Matt podcast, Matt Camp discussed other potential opponents for John Cena, including Randy Orton and Gunther. Meanwhile, he urged the company to avoid booking the 16-time World Champion against Carmelo Hayes.

The ex-RAW Talk host claimed the former NXT Champion is not on a level that allows him to share the ring with The Cenation Leader.

"Cena and Carmelo, no, please don't waste a date on Carmelo Hayes. He ain't even close. He ain't even in the ballpark. If you got a year of Cena and he's gonna be around, I'm okay with some of the guys he's never faced off with and maybe put, okay (...) I don't think we got time for that. And I'm not saying it's gotta be a full nostalgia tour either," he said.

John Cena and Ric Flair currently hold the record for most recognized world championship wins by WWE at 16. It will be interesting to see whether the 47-year-old will challenge Cody Rhodes for a chance to win his 17th World Championship.
