WWE commentator Pat McAfee was not present on RAW this past Monday. The former NFL player has now revealed the reason behind his absence, noting that his father-in-law passed away unexpectedly last night.

Pat McAfee has been associated with the Stamford-based promotion since 2018. While he started as a pre-show analyst, he also stepped inside the WWE ring occasionally. The 37-year-old is currently a part of the RAW commentary team where he calls match-by-match action with Michael Cole.

When the star did not show up on the red brand, many assumed that it had something to do with the Wyatt Sicks as the sinister faction had made its presence felt on his talk show. However, Pat McAfee recently revealed the actual reason behind his absence, noting that his father-in-law passed away last night.

"Yesterday was a day that will be remembered forever in our family because my father-in-law passed away unexpectedly. After the show ended yesterday, in a hospital here in Indianapolis. He’d been in a hospital, fighting an infection. On friday we were told that he was gonna be discharged by Sunday. They had figured it out and he was gonna be okay. So we all had high hopes and yesterday, literally as the show is ending, my wife calls me and says I have to get to the hospital because there had been an emergency. So I head over there and what my wife, and her mom and her aunt and everybody in her family saw go on was her dad being a bada*s and trying to kick a*s and inevitably losing his fight."

Pat continued:

"Whenever something blindsides an entire family like that, obviously it can be wildly devastating. Last night was a very difficult night for our family."

Pat McAfee featured in WWE's recent announcement

WWE recently announced a first-of-its-kind deal with Indiana Sports Corp that will see the company's three biggest premium live events - Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, and WrestleMania take place at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Pat McAfee, who played with the Indianapolis Colts for nearly eight years, was also featured in the announcement video along with Triple H. Many believe that the former Punter played a key role in making the deal happen.

McAfee has not stepped inside the WWE ring since Royal Rumble earlier this year. However, with the company heading to Indianapolis next year, fans are expecting the former NFL player to once again don his wrestling boots.
