Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, the Motor City Machine Guns, made a successful WWE debut on SmackDown last Friday. They were congratulated by fellow TNA Wrestling alumni, Jeremy Borash, who currently works for the Stamford-based promotion as Senior Director of Content and Development.
After plenty of speculations and hints, MCMG finally signed a deal and made their debut on SmackDown in a WWE Tag Team Title Triple Threat qualifying match against A-Town Down Under and Los Garza. Shelley and Sabin showed why they are one of the best tag teams in the world, winning the match and earning a date with #DIY next week.
WWE's X account recently posted a video in which Shelley and Sabin introduced themselves to fans. Jeremy Borash reacted to the post as he congratulated them for their successful debut. He worked with the two stars during his 16-year stint with TNA Wrestling until leaving in 2018 to work under Triple H on NXT.
"Well deserved and long overdue. Congrats, Alex and Chris!" Borash wrote.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Before arriving in the big leagues, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin made their names as singles superstars and as a tag team in TNA Wrestling. Shelley and Sabin are both former TNA World Champions and three-time TNA World Tag Team Champions.
Shelley and Sabin are also one-time Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champions, one-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, one-time Strong Openweight Tag Team Champions, and one-time GCW Tag Team Champions.
Motor City Machine Guns are one win away from being No. 1 contenders for WWE Tag Team Championship
After their successful debut on SmackDown, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin are one win away from earning a shot at the WWE Tag Team Title, currently held by Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa of The Bloodline.
The Motor City Machine Guns are set to take on #DIY (Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano) next Friday. The winning team will earn a future title match against The Tongans.
It will be interesting to see if Shelley and Sabin make history by winning gold in just their third match in the Stamford-based promotion.
