Gunther has been presented as a top star ever since his move to WWE. Now, he has another major accolade under his belt before the end of 2024.
While The Ring General's legendary Intercontinental Championship reign came to an end on Night One of WrestleMania XL against Sami Zayn, he moved on to bigger things not long after. Gunther won the King of the Ring tournament by defeating Randy Orton in the summit clash, earning a World Heavyweight Championship match at SummerSlam in the process.
He didn't squander his opportunity and dethroned Damian Priest at The Biggest Party of the Summer. Since then, he has ruled over WWE RAW, with his most recent title defense coming in a triple-threat bout against Priest and Finn Balor at Saturday Night's Main Event.
In recognition of his tremendous success in 2024, ESPN has named Gunther as the "Men's Wrestler of the Year."
We at Sportskeeda Wrestling would like to congratulate Gunther and hope he has a lengthy reign with the World Heavyweight Championship.
WWE legend tipped to dethrone Gunther at WrestleMania 41
John Cena's retirement tour in 2025 is just around the corner, and it promises to be an all-timer run. Fans want The Cenation Leader to face multiple top stars before he hangs up his wrestling boots next December.
Speaking on the ZASLOW SHOW 2.0, Peter Rosenberg said that he wants Cena to win the 2025 Royal Rumble and eventually dethrone Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at The Show of Shows. The 45-year-old veteran would love to see John Cena break the record of Ric Flair's most world title reigns.
"I want him to beat Gunther at WrestleMania. I've had enough of him losing. I'd love for him to win the Rumble. It would be his third. I think that ties him with [Stone Cold Steve Austin] for most Rumble wins. Then he could go [break] Ric Flair's record. I would love it," he said. [29:38 - 29:55]
It remains to be seen if Gunther and Cena will cross paths during the latter's final run in WWE.
