Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano were lucky to leave Phoenix, Arizona, as WWE Tag Team Champions last night on SmackDown after Pretty Deadly interfered in their match against the Motor City Machine Guns. However, it seems that it could have been more about experience than luck.

Ciampa is celebrating 20 years in the business this month after getting his foot in the door back in January 2005, earning his name in several independent promotions, including Chaotic Wrestling and Top Rope Promotions.

The current WWE Tag Team Champion wrestled for the IWF Junior Heavyweight Championship in May 2005 but came up short against Sean Royal. He later became known as Tommy Penmanship in Chaotic Wrestling.

Tommaso Ciampa made his first WWE appearance back in July 2005, when he was seen as one of Muhammad Hassan's lawyers against The Undertaker. He then made several appearances on Velocity and Heat later that year, wrestling Jamie Noble, Lance Cade, and Trevor Murdoch.

The Blackheart bounced around promotions for several years before working for Ring of Honor in 2011. Ciampa signed a developmental deal with WWE in 2007 but was released from his contract a few months later.

Tommaso Ciampa finally signed a contract with WWE in 2016

Tommaso Ciampa reappeared in WWE in 2015 after spells in Ring of Honor and TNA and was linked up with Johnny Gargano in the NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament. He eventually re-signed with the company in April 2016.

The Blackheart and Johnny Wrestling have been part of storylines together for the past 10 years and are currently the reigning WWE Tag Team Champions.

The #DIY members were together and, at times, against each other throughout their time on NXT and have finally found common ground on SmackDown against the Motor City Machine Guns, a team that Gargano has known for several years.

It will be interesting to see what's next for Ciampa as he pushes into the next decade of his wrestling career.
