WWE Superstar Dakota Kai has referred to a popular star as her 'bestie' in a recent social media update. The name in question is backstage interviewer Cathy Kelley.

The two women are close friends and used to post several social media updates alongside each other before The Damage CTRL member got injured earlier this year. Cathy even visited Dakota's native country of New Zealand during last year's Christmas.

Cathy Kelley turned 36 on September 27. On the occasion of her birthday, the backstage interviewer took to her Instagram account to share stunning pictures of herself. Dakota Kai reshared the post on Instagram Stories, referring to Kelley as her 'bestie.'

"My bestie a bombshell😍," wrote Dakota Kai.

Kai is currently out of action with a torn meniscus. Her last televised in-ring appearance was on the July 8 edition of Monday Night RAW, when she teamed up with fellow stablemates to defeat the team of Katana Chance, Kayden Carter, and Lyra Valkyria. Although she competed in matches during WWE's Japan tour, she has yet to wrestle on television since.

Dakota Kai opens up about her journey before joining WWE

Dakota Kai signed with WWE in 2015. The 36-year-old, however, had already made a name for herself before joining the Stamford-based company, thanks to her impressive performances across several wrestling promotions.

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Dakota Kai opened up about her journey in the world of professional wrestling. The former one-half of the NXT Women's Tag Team Champions mentioned how she got into wrestling and started training in 2007. She further talked about some of the work she did before her WWE tryout:

"I was completely enamored with the athleticism, the theatrics, and everything. I started watching it every week, and I began training in 2007, which feels like so long ago [...] I completely fell in love with it, and from there, I was maybe doing a show a month back home [New Zealand], and then opportunities started popping up in terms of going to Australia and going to Japan for a couple of tours. I never really thought at any point that I would ever make it here. [...] I never thought that I would make it [to WWE] until I eventually got that tryout, and it was very much a whirlwind experience for sure," she said. [From 09:13 to 10:26]

Like Dakota, Damage CTRL's Asuka has also been forced out of action due to injury. It remains to be seen when the two will join IYO SKY and Kairi Sane on Monday Night RAW.
