Damian Priest's world title run is "muddy," says WWE veteran; names one star who could dethrone him

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray recently claimed that a RAW star could dethrone Damian Priest as the World Heavyweight Champion. The star being referred to is Gunther.

At the Clash at the Castle Premium Live Event, Priest locked horns with Drew McIntyre with his title on the line. Many fans thought McIntyre would come out victorious in his home country of Scotland. However, The Scottish Warrior lost the bout after interference from CM Punk.

Damian Priest's next challenger is all set. Gunther will take on the Judgment Day member at SummerSlam as The Ring General won the King of the Ring Tournament and will get the opportunity to face the World Heavyweight Champion.

During a recent edition of Busted Open, Bully Ray said that Gunther elevated the Intercontinental Championship and made it feel like a big deal.

"Look at what Gunther did for the Intercontinental Championship. And make no mistake, when it comes to the man making the championship or the championship making the man, Gunther made that Intercontinental Championship feel like a big deal," he said.

Ray added that he felt Damian Priest's World Heavyweight Championship reign was a little blurry because of his involvement with The Judgment Day. The WWE Hall of Famer also mentioned that he believed the company wanted to put the title on The Ring General at SummerSlam.

"Now, [with] the WWE [World Heavyweight] Championship being on Priest, I think Damian Priest is doing a really good job as champion, I just think it's muddy and a little blurry because he's so still involved with the Judgment Day. I don't feel like he's been presented as a real singles champion. I think they did what they did with him and put the championship on him for the long-term booking of where they want to get with Gunther," he added. (H/T WrestlingINC)

Damian Priest commented on Gunther's challenge for WWE SummerSlam

During the Clash at the Castle post-show press conference, Damian Priest praised Gunther for his incredible Intercontinental Championship reign before vowing to beat The Ring General at WWE SummerSlam and prove everyone wrong.

"I'm the World [Heavyweight] Champ. I'm going to face Gunther at SummerSlam. Look, we all know how good he is in the ring. His IC title run was historic. So, I get it. I get the challenge that he is going to be. But again, please tell me I can't beat him. Please tell me I can't beat Gunther. Because I can't wait to shove that one down everybody's throats as well at SummerSlam," he said.

It will be interesting to see who will come out on top between Gunther and Damian Priest at WWE SummerSlam.
