Randy Orton has had a lengthy WWE career with great matches and rivalries. However, his feud with Kofi Kingston in 2009 was derailed after Orton yelled at Kingston on live television for botching a spot during their match.
Kofi Kingston was set to get a massive push in 2009 after he impressed Vince Mcmahon with his promo on RAW. Unfortunately for the New Day member, his match with Randy Orton turned out to be a trainwreck, with Orton making his anger evident during their bout itself.
Former WWE writer Freddie Prince Jr. spoke about the incident, revealing Orton's lividness with Kingston resulted in him losing his push. Prince said they had major plans for Kingston, which were approved by Stephanie McMahon and ready to take off the week he made a major botch:
''In the meantime, Randy Orton and Kofi have a match. This is a week later [after the NASCAR segment]. In the match, a spot gets blown. So a spot gets blown and Randy gets pissed on live TV and you see him yell ‘stupid’ with that deep Orton booming voice...so this spot gets blown, meaning the technique, a stunt in the match gets blown. You can tell something doesn’t look good. I don’t know what it is because I don’t see the spot when it happens. I don’t what happened, I just know something is not good, right."

Kofi Kingston remained a mid-carder after his spat with Randy Orton
Unfortunately for Kofi Kingston, his push didn't last long. While Orton retained his spot on the top card, Kofi was relegated to the mid-card until he joined forces with Xavier Woods & Big E to form The New Day.
Since then, Kofi Kingston has found great success as part of The New Day and even won his first WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35.
