Drew McIntyre fires shots at CM Punk ahead of WWE SummerSlam

WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre will finally get his hands on CM Punk at SummerSlam 2024. Ahead of the premium live event in Cleveland, The Scottish Warrior has delivered witty insults to his opponent in the lead-up to the highly anticipated match.

At this year's Royal Rumble, McIntyre injured The Second City Saint. This injury led to Punk costing the 39-year-old WWE star multiple opportunities to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

Following their actions at Money in the Bank 2024, both men were fined by RAW General Manager Adam Pearce. The Scottish Warrior is obsessed with eliminating the former AEW star. Meanwhile, CM Punk is seeking revenge after McIntyre stole his bracelet.

During an appearance on the Busted Open podcast ahead of The Biggest Party of the Summer, Drew McIntyre insulted The Straight Edge Superstar, suggesting that any physical contact would result in another injury for the latter.

"But you've seen him [CM Punk] s***w me over time and time again on television. You've seen him try to defeat me (...) Now I'm gonna kick his a** in the ring. I'm scared to touch the guy. Thank god, we can touch each other or he would break," he said. (From 0:54 - 1:07)

The 39-year-old WWE Superstar also criticized Punk for his long recovery from a triceps injury. McIntyre added:

"I mentioned this last night, he's been out for 7 months for a tricep injury. Anyone injure their triceps? It takes about 3 months to recover. I think the joke I made last night and it's not a joke. The guy has got the recovery power of the opposite of Wolverine. He takes so freaking long to recover." [1:07 - 1:23]

CM Punk reveals his motivation for targeting Drew McIntyre in WWE

In a recent interview with ESPN's First Take, The Best in the World stated that the reason he went after Drew McIntyre was because the latter initiated the rivalry at the Rumble.

CM Punk further mentioned that he never claimed to be a "leader" for other WWE Superstars, contrary to The Scottish Warrior's accusation.

"It's because I'm a target for Drew. That's really all there is to it. Drew keeps poking the bear. Sometimes you have to let them know who the man is," he said.
