Eric Bischoff has lots of experience in the wrestling business as an executive, producer, and on-screen personality. In an exclusive interview, the WWE Hall of Famer explained why so many fans still watch wrestling today.

Since Triple H replaced Vince McMahon as WWE's creative figurehead in 2022, many fans have enjoyed the fresh storylines and new-look presentation. In recent years, Tony Khan's AEW promotion has also emerged as a viable alternative to WWE.

Taking a positive look at modern-day wrestling, Bischoff told Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter about the things AEW and WWE are getting right:

"It's an alternative. You always hear people talking about alternative programming, alternative music, and I've thought often about the similarities between the indie music scene and the indie wrestling scene. I think if you put it all together, because there's different presentations, the WWE presentation is different than the AEW presentation, or at least AEW is trying to do that. But, overall, I think it's just the greatest alternative escapism out there, especially because it's live." [2:09 – 2:44]

Eric Bischoff on another reason why wrestling is so popular

These days, viewers often have to wait several months for television shows to release on streaming services. However, that is not the case with professional wrestling, which airs live multiple times per week.

Eric Bischoff thinks the live aspect of wrestling adds to the viewing experience:

"Other than watching the news and sports, there's nothing live on television anymore, and I think because wrestling is conflict, inherently, it's about conflict and resolution and drama, it plays out live. You don't have to think a lot about it, you shouldn't, and you just get to sit back and escape. And there's just not a lot of that entertainment left." [2:45 – 3:09]

In the same interview, Bischoff gave his honest thoughts on The Wyatt Sicks as a WWE faction.
