Former WWE head writer Vince Russo spoke about WWE pushing Sami Zayn. The star is currently looking to challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship.
This week on RAW, Sami cut a promo claiming that seeing Bret Hart last week reminded him how badly he wanted to be the champion. He stated that Gunther was not accepting his challenge because the Ring General was possibly afraid of him. He was then interrupted by Ludwig Kaiser, followed by the champ himself. Gunther once again rebuked his challenge, refusing to give him a title shot.
During this week's Legion of RAW, Russo questioned why WWE was pushing Sami Zayn for a match against Gunther. He pointed out that the company was planning to bring back Saturday Night's Main Event but did not have the necessary star power to put on that show. He recalled the Golden Era of WWE when such events were stacked with top talent having some memorable matches throughout the card.
"Bro, I swear to God. Now they're gonna have the Saturday Night's Main Event back on. Who is gonna be watching Sami Zayn at 12 o'clock on a Saturday Night?" Russo continued, "Can you explain to these people who may not know the magnitude and type of show that Saturday Night's Main event was? Can you please explain to us? Now we're gonna replace that show with Pete Dunne and Sami Zayn. JD McDonagh is gonna be on NBC?" [From 30:00 onwards]
This week, Sami sent a strong message to Gunther as he hit Kaiser with a vicious Helluva Kick.
It will be interesting to see if the Master Strategist can manipulate Gunther into giving him a title opportunity.
