LA Knight has been one of WWE's hottest superstars since 2023 and a clear fan favorite. An ex-WWE writer thinks that it was a mistake involving him in a major storyline last year.

Sportskeeda Wrestling's Kevin Kellam had an exclusive interview with ex-WWE writer Jon Rineman - who worked with the sports entertainment juggernaut briefly in 2019. He hinted at his life being tumultuous during that period, stating that he wasn't a good fit for WWE at that point.

When speaking about a man he worked with a couple of times, the late, great Bray Wyatt, Jon Rineman admitted that his brief 2022-2023 run left a lot to be desired. He also stated his opinion that putting LA Knight up against Bray Wyatt was a bad idea because there was no change to the Megastar's character.

While Knight certainly got much bigger in the months to come, the program did very little for either man. Rineman also said that while he was skeptical about the long-drawn tease of Uncle Howdy (this was recorded before the June 17th RAW return), he admitted that it could be a great way to pay tribute to the late legend:

'LA Knight, I don't know that he was the right opponent. It was a great program, but what was the result of it? He just continued to be awesome. There was no character change, he didn't get darker, he didn't get scarier, or whatever. Yeah, we'll see what happens. But there are times where, I'll be honest with you, where it feels like Tony Cliffton. Oh god, this is just Bob Zmuda trying to be handy. But then again, this could also be an amazing way to honor someone. This is a big group of people, they were all very close and came up together in NXT. This could be a very fun way to have it go. We all learned with Veer [Mahaan] when you keep teasing someone and don't pay it off." (18:09-19:04)

LA Knight looks to be challenging Logan Paul for the United States Championship

The Megastar LA Knight has yet to win any championship gold on the main roster. While his pursuit of the Undisputed WWE (Universal) Championship failed in November 2023 and January 2024, he is targeting another title - the United States Championship.

All signs seem to be leading to a big clash between Knight and Logan Paul at Money in the Bank. It will be interesting to see if the program is a one-off or whether it extends into SummerSlam.

SummerSlam takes place in Logan Paul's hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.
