A former WWE employee recently revealed his last words to Vince McMahon before he left the promotion. According to him, his departure eventually led to a degradation in the quality of the product.

The former employee being talked about is Vince Russo, who was the head writer of the Stamford-based promotion's creative division in the late 1990s. Credited as a major force behind the widely acclaimed Attitude era in pro wrestling, Russo has substantial experience in the business. However, he has sometimes been a controversial figure for his approach to booking.

On Sportskeeda's Writing with Russo, the veteran provided a response to claims that he had been responsible for the fall of ratings in WWE in the past 2000. He said:

"The numbers are there if anybody wants to look at them. I left the company in September of 1999. And my exact words to Vince were, you have a year to ride the wave. Vince, everything is in place, you can run it on autopilot for the next year. So that was September of '99. Guys, go look what happened in September 2000. So for him to say oh yeah, bro, we were wildly successful without him; that's why I am not gonna argue with these marks, bro, because the numbers are out there." [5:30 onwards]

The WWE veteran also commented on his conflict with JBL

According to Vince Russo, JBL has had a problem with him since the two worked together in WWE in the late 1990s.

Speaking on the same episode of Writing with Russo, the veteran stated:

"When I took over, he was doing The New Blackjacks with... Barry Windham. I had to pull him and Windham aside and say guys, this is not getting over. The new Blackjack gimmick was not getting over. And rather than me play wrestling political games, I called these two guys in, and I said guys, I am just gonna shoot straight with you. This is not getting over. I don't see this getting over in this era. And from that moment on, Chris, the dude had a problem with me." [00:36 onwards]

It remains to be seen if JBL will fire back with a comment in the near future.
