Ex-WWE star was hesitant to move from RAW to SmackDown for a major reason

The annual WWE Draft often changes a superstar's trajectory when they make a new brand their home. However, this wasn't the case with Muhammad Hassan, as he recently addressed why he was hesitant to move to SmackDown.

In 2005, Muhammad Hassan and Shawn Daivari were moved to SmackDown for a fresh start in the Stamford-based company. However, this move ultimately became the end of Hassan and eventually ended Marc Copani's career as a professional wrestler in the promotion under Vince McMahon's regime.

Speaking on Maven Huffman's YouTube channel, the two stars reflected on Copani's career as Muhammad Hassan. In the video, Copani stated he was hesitant to move to SmackDown and expressed his concern as the controversial character would not work on cable TV compared to the network.

"Shawn [Daivari] and I got moved from RAW to SmackDown, and I remember being vocal about it before. Just that RAW was on network and SmackDown is on cable. I just felt like my character was getting more and more edgy, and I remember expressing my concern that moving that character to a network show was ultimately going to be bad for the character. Either we got to tone it down or that character's not going to fly," Hassan said. (From 27:47 to 28:15)

Muhammad Hassan has no plans to return to WWE or wrestle as a full-time performer

Muhammad Hassan had all the tools to succeed as a professional wrestler in WWE. However, his character landed him in hot water as a real-life tragedy affected his career in the Stamford-based promotion.

Later, the star moved away from professional wrestling and only made three appearances on the independent circuit in 2018. Many have wondered what it would've been like if Hassan had been around in the industry.

In an interview on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, the 44-year-old stated he has no interest in returning to wrestling, regardless of any company, including WWE as he's past his prime and his body cannot keep up with the traveling.

Copani is currently working at G. Ray Bodley High School and has been in the teaching field over the past decade.
