A former WWE star has been active on the independent scene since his release from the company. He is now on the verge of completing a rare milestone.
Ever since Matt Cardona was released from WWE in 2020, he has been active on the independent scene and has wrestled for various promotions across the United States. Some of the promotions he has competed for include GCW, TNA, AEW, and many more.
Matt Cardona has also won championships everywhere he has wrestled and has come a long way since his days in the Stamford-based promotion. Cardona is set to compete in a GCW show tomorrow in Hawaii. Ahead of this match, he took to social media to announce that Hawaii will be the 50th state in which he is wrestling.
"Landed in Hawaii and straight to the beach! Tomorrow we have a @GCWrestling_ show here! I’m very grateful that I am being paid to be on a beach in Hawaii. 20 years in this crazy business and tomorrow I finally get to wrestle in my 50th state!"

Since his WWE release in 2020, Matt Cardona has been a regular feature on GCW and has wrestled some of the promotion's top names. Hence, Cardona feels grateful for the promotion.
Cardona recently took to social media to express his gratitude towards GCW for changing his life.
"When I got fired from WWE in 2020, I didn’t know what was next for me. I didn’t even know who I was. And then I found @GCWrestling_in 2021. My career changed forever. My life changed forever. I’ve literally given my blood, sweat, and tears to GCW. January 19, 2025… we are going back to Hammerstein Ballroom. And I don’t give a s**t about proving the doubters wrong… I care about proving our supporters RIGHT! WE…ARE…GCW! #ThePeopleVsGCW."
