The Hardy Boyz were one of WWE's most popular tag teams in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Stevie Richards, another WWE wrestler during that time, recently addressed an incident that led to Matt and Jeff Hardy getting kicked out of the locker room.
On the July 5, 1999, episode of RAW, The Hardy Boyz defeated Bradshaw and Faarooq to win the tag titles. Following the show, the new World Tag Team Champions traveled in first class seats that were originally meant for fellow WWE star Kane.
Richards spoke on The Stevie Richards Show about wrestlers getting banned from the locker room. Asked about the incident involving The Hardy Boyz, he explained why younger wrestlers are expected to give up their first class seats:
"I don't know about the first class seat and that story, but in general if you ever get a first class seat you're giving that up," Richards said. "You're giving that up. And the thing is, too, if you go to give the seat up and the boys refuse, the guys refuse, the top guys, it kinda gives you the clue that you have some sort of heat. Now they want to be offended." The Hardy Boyz revealed the first class story in their 2003 autobiography, Exist 2 Inspire. They returned to the locker room after Bradshaw, aka JBL, permitted them to change with the rest of the roster again.
Stevie Richards' experience traveling in WWE
In the same episode, Stevie Richards recalled how a wrestler was once kicked out of the locker room for drinking Booker T's Red Bull.
The former WWE star added that he went to extreme lengths to avoid garnering backstage heat with other wrestlers:
"There was one time I got one [a first class seat] and I was like, 'I'm getting on a different flight. I'm not getting on that seat no matter what,'" Richards continued. "And guess what ended up happening? They were even madder at me! Because you have to take it. It's so F'ing stupid sometimes. And, for real, it's exhausting, and I'll repeat it for the fourth time, this stuff is already hard enough as it is without somebody voluntarily trying to make it harder." [12:31 – 12:58]
Richards also told a story about a female star receiving her release from WWE after a backstage incident with six-time world champion Batista.
