Ex-WWE writer discusses Gunther's career trajectory ahead of high stakes match

Tama Tonga, Jey Uso, Gunther, and Randy Orton, one of these four men will become the 2024 King of the Ring. A former WWE writer Freddie Prinze, Jr. feels the title does not suit anyone more than it does on The Ring General.

Gunther will face Jey Uso in the semi-final on WWE RAW this week. The bout is only their second encounter. The first time they met was in February when The Ring General successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship.

On his podcast Wrestling With Freddie, he praised Gunther's match against former WWE Champion Sheamus in the first round. He is convinced that the Austrian Anomaly is climbing uphill after dropping the Intercontinental Championship on The Show of Shows last month. Furthermore, it is only a matter of time before The Ring General hoists a world championship:

"I think GUNTHER is winning," Prinze Jr. said. "I think he'll look the best in it even if they make him wear a crown. Please don't make him wear a crown. Please don't make him wear a crown and a cape, but I just think it suits him. It fits him well. He's definitely on a trajectory towards a world championship. And I just think it would be awesome if he wins. And that match [against Sheamus] was so freaking good. Dude, it was so freaking good." [H/T: Wrestling Inc]

Gunther, 36, suffered his first pinfall loss on the main roster at WrestleMania XL against Sami Zayn. Many fans and contemporaries agree with Freddie's sentiment that he will become world champion sooner rather than later.

Current World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest, while recently discussing the Stamford-based promotion's route moving towards international shows, addressed that the August show - Bash In Berlin, is The Ring General's home turf.

Gunther is hopeful WWE books him against the "final boss," Brock Lesnar

Although "The Final Boss" is a monicker now popularly associated with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Gunther has reiterated on many occasions in the past that to him, it has always been The Beast Incarnate.

It appears The Ring General is still open to have that match against Brock Lesnar, which seemingly was the original plan for WrestleMania XL. Without confirming it, he stated:

"Of course, I heard something about it. I always saw Brock as my final boss. I always get portrayed as that, as the NXT UK Champion, the Intercontinental Champion, I was like the final boss of that division. And Brock, for a long time, was the final boss of the whole company. So I always saw myself in my future to be in a similar position to him, and to be that you've got to get in the ring with that guy," he said.

Brock Lesnar was last seen at SummerSlam 2023, where he massively put over Cody Rhodes in their rubber match, after an intense months-long feud. Gunther also admitted recently that there is logic behind facing the Undisputed WWE Champion at Bash In Berlin later this year.
