There continues to be a lot of confusion over Jacob Fatu's status since he seemingly injured his leg at WWE SummerSlam. Amidst his absence, Bill Apter believed the company could use the Freebirds rule to allow The Bloodline to still have the tag team titles.

On paper, Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga are the WWE Tag Team Champions after defeating DIY on a SmackDown episode. Jacob Fatu injured his ankle during a spot with Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, and many have wondered whether his injury is legitimate or part of a larger storyline.

While we'll address the latest on Jacob Fatu later, Bill Apter revealed an idea for WWE to cover for Jacob Fatu. Sportskeeda's Senior Editor brought up the Fabulous Freebirds rule, named after the Michael Hayes-led faction, which permits any two members of a group to defend the tag team titles.

Even if Jacob Fatu won't be around in the near future, Bill Apter felt The Bloodline exploiting the Freebirds rule could generate more heat from the fans.

"You know what they need to do at this point? What the company needs to do is use the Freebirds rule, which states that any of the Freebirds could defend the titles; it doesn't just have to be (Michael) Hayes and (Buddy) Roberts; it can be Roberts and (Terry) Gordy. This would be great as one of the other Bloodline members would just replace him (Jacob Fatu). And when he comes back, he can (defend) the titles if they still have them. I think it would be great. The fans would boo the heck out of that thing." [From 9:50 onwards]

Jacob Fatu will reportedly make his WWE return sooner than expected

Multiple stories regarding Jacob Fatu have hit the internet since SummerSlam. It was previously noted that Fatu was always scheduled to sell his injury after Roman Reigns returned at SummerSlam and confronted Solo Sikoa.

Jacob Fatu, however, was not seen backstage at recent shows, and a photo of him in a leg brace raised fears that his injury might be real and serious.

Thankfully, that doesn't seem to be the case. A new report from PWInsider revealed that Jacob Fatu is expected to return by the end of August, which is great news for WWE and the fans.

Jacob Fatu has become an integral part of The Bloodline saga, and his comeback will undoubtedly be a big WWE TV moment.
