Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about Bayley having a match on SmackDown this week. She faced Naomi in a singles match to decide the number one contender for the WWE Women's Championship.
Both superstars had pinned Nia Jax last week on SmackDown. This week, Bayley fought Naomi tooth and nail for a shot at championship gold. The Role Model emerged as the winner with a Bayley-to-Belly followed by the flying elbow.
This week on BroDown with Vince Russo, the former head writer mentioned that both stars gave it all in the ring. Russo shifted the blame to the creative team, claiming that they were unable to craft compelling storylines to back the incredible performances. He felt it was the job of the creative to get fans invested in the stars.
"The girls worked really, really hard. But let's be honest, why did we care if either one of these girls won or lost? Why do I want Bayley to win, why do I want Naomi to win? I don't care who wins this match and that's a problem. You gotta get me invested in your show, you gotta get me invested in your match, you gotta get me invested in your performers. I'm sitting here not caring who wins this match. So I am not invested." [From 9:00 onwards]

With this win, the former Damage CTRL leader has cemented herself as the number one challenger for the WWE Women's Champion Nia Jax.
It will be interesting to see if The Role Model can regain the title from Jax in their next meetup at Bad Blood.
