A former WWE Superstar has confirmed that he will be present in Cleveland, Ohio during the SummerSlam 2024 week. The four-time champion in question is Matt Riddle, who was released by the promotion last year.
Riddle had a five-year tenure with the Stamford-based promotion, beginning in 2018 and lasting until September 2023. He had a fairly successful run in NXT and on the main roster, where he became a multi-time champion.
The Original Bro was also part of a tag team with Randy Orton, along with whom he became a 2-time RAW Tag Team Champion. Matt Riddle had a long-running feud with The Bloodline too, which further elevated his stock within the company.
Riddle has kept himself busy on the indie circuit ever since he left WWE last year, performing for companies several companies like MLW and New Japan Pro Wrestling. He recently took to Twitter to confirm that he would be appearing at the WrestleCon in Cleveland, Ohio, during the SummerSlam 2024 week.
"See you all tomorrow at WrestleCon Bro in Cleveland Ohio," tweeted Matt Riddle.
Even though unlikely, fans would pop up if he were to make an unexpected appearance at SummerSlam since the premium live event also happens to be in Cleveland. This has led many fans to speculate whether this was a tease from the former star.
Kurt Angle rejected the chance to work with Matt Riddle in WWE
On a recent edition of the Kurt Angle Show, the WWE Hall of Famer disclosed that the company reached out to him a couple of years ago with the offer of managing Matt Riddle on TV. Angle, however, added that he turned down the proposal as he wasn't pleased with the monetary aspect of the deal offered to him.
"I will tell you this: I feel a little badly about doing this. But a few years ago, WWE wanted me to manage Matt Riddle. I was into it. I was like, 'Okay, we could have some great vignettes. I think we would have had great chemistry, but it didn’t happen unfortunately because they didn’t offer me the right amount of money. The money they offered me was really not good. Not to say anything bad about the company, but it was like okay. That was kind of a kick to the nuts kind of an offer," he said.
Angle also clarified that he was open to returning to the Stamford-based promotion, given everything falls in place in terms of the creative and money.
