Former champion's performance at Backlash very well-received by WWE Officials; major push awaiting?

The WWE Backlash event was a major success for the company.

Now, the WrestleMania season is in the rearview mirror, with WWE's epilogue for their biggest event of the year in the form of Backlash, ending on a high note this past Saturday in Puerto Rico.

The show featured big matches and massive performances from the company's top stars. One of them who has been receiving rave reactions from backstage personnel is the soon-to-be 29-year-old Nigerian Giant, Omos.

The young star has been receiving a strong push of late. This included a WrestleMania match against Brock Lesnar and, most recently, a high-profile contest against WWE's workhorse, Seth Rollins.

Both The Visionary and The Nigerian Giant wrestled a good 10-minute match, which was not expected considering the latter's bouts usually being on the shorter side of the spectrum.

Nevertheless, PWInsider recently reported that people in the company were very happy with Omos' match with Rollins, and the feeling is that it was one of the best major bouts he's had.

Omos may be in line for a continued push on the roster in the form of special attraction matches, as seen in the last few months.

Omos wants to ultimately become WWE Champion

Omos is a former one-time RAW Tag Team Champion, alongside AJ Styles. He recently called the Phenomenal One as one of his closest friends, on Insights with Chris Van Vliet.

In the same interview, The Nigerian Giant confirmed his aspirations to win singles gold in the global juggernaut company:

"Oh, man, of course I want to be WWE Champion, you know. That's the kind of top of the list. When I first started I had goals I wanted to accomplish and I think I've met some of those goals."

He then explained why he is world championship material:

"So I think there's a lot of plans left and a lot of things I want to achieve," Omos added. "But I think the top of the list is becoming [champion] and holding that gold over my head. Here, look at me now. I'm the biggest, baddest son of a gun you have ever seen. Now we are here, you know. So that's the top of the list, you know?"

So far, Omos has had a very eventful run. He wrestled alongside AJ Styles to take on the New Day at WrestleMania 37, then had back-to-back contests on The Grandest Stage against Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar.

Despite losing these big matches, including his bout against former Universal Champion Braun Strowman last year, Omos has managed to retain the aura surrounding him as a special attraction. Continue reading about this from the viewpoint of a multi-time champion and WWE Hall of Famer here.
